Berthe Morisot was a powerful and exciting painter whose art is a celebration of life and art, she is an inspirational figure who was arguably, the first painter to paint works that celebrate a woman’s view of the world. She was considered by many of her contemporaries to be the Impressionist painter par excellence. Morisot chose to associate herself with the Impressionists in order to develop and express her own vision. Her relationship with Edouard Manet has caused much speculation; he encouraged her and painted her many times – the exact nature of their relationship remains a mystery, but the paintings he made of her reveal an intensity and intimacy which tell their own story.
